Why we picked Boonton NJ as our home; It's in the music!
A lot of people asked why we opened our shop in Boonton, Northern New Jersey. I discovered Boonton when I was on my way to rehearse with the band The Misfits and also through vending at the Lunar Faire events. Music and creativity are a big part of Catfight coffee and that needed to be reflected in the town we would put our first brick-and-mortar location. Playing music in a small town call feel like you are pushing a bolder up a hill. I know. But Boonston has cultivated a thriving music scene, with standout bands like Pollyanna, High, and Raccoontour making local and international waves. These bands are going to be hitting the road, spreading the vibrant spirit of their music far and wide. Here is a little info on each so that you can check them out in your town or on our Spotify playlist this week.
Pollyanna is a powerhouse of emotionally charged indie rock, and their relentless touring schedule reflects their commitment to connecting with audiences everywhere. Their tours are known for energetic, intimate performances that leave a lasting impression and green slime! They'll be crossing the pond for a UK tour this March, home for a cup of coffee at Catfight-then jump in to a full US tour!
High takes their genre-defying blend of funk, rock, and alternative vibes on the road with an infectious enthusiasm that matches their music; Noise Gaze! Their tours are a party in motion, bringing a kaleidoscope of sound and energy to venues of all sizes. Their ability to captivate live audiences has earned them a reputation as a band you need to see live. They are currently on tour on the West Coast, so check them out if you are on the left side and were listed as a band to watch by Sterogum magazine!
Raccoontour, with its folk-infused indie rock, tours extensively across the East Coast, sharing intricate melodies and lyrics with a diverse audience. Their live shows feel like a communal experience, fostering a connection between the band and the crowd that’s as powerful as their music. See them locally or at the Treefort Festival in the heart of Boise, ID. Happening March 26-30, 2025.
These bands don’t just represent Boonton—they’re ambassadors of the town and its vibrant, authentic growing main street area.
And while we are waiting for the Darress Theater to open, you can pick up Vinyl and see some local shows at Hidden Tracks records right on Main Street. Music is alive and well in North Jersey and Boonton is proud to call all these our own!
